The coastal road winds its way through
this sparsely populated area, from loch to loch and
village to village, and provides a number of excellent
viewpoints.
Shores alternate between steep rocky headlands,
coloured by lichens dotted with barnacles and limpets,
and small boulder-strewn bays draped in brown wrack
seaweeds.
Clumps of the multi-branched, almost bladderless
form of knotted wrack lie unattached on tiny pocket
beaches and seagrass beds grow in sandy shallows.
