The area is steeped in history, with prehistoric forts sited on islands.

On an island within the South Channel of Loch Moidart, stands the 12th Century ruins of Castle Tioram, ancient seat of the Clan Ranald MacDonald, descendants of Somerled, first Lord of the Isles.
